Belt Course

Also known as a stringcourse, a belt course is a horizontal band of masonry, usually of brick or stone, extending around the building and often projecting slightly beyond the face of the wall. The two belt courses on the Garner-Pingree house correspond with the floor levels and help break up the expanses of brick on the facade.
