Chimneys

Slender brick chimneys rising from the corners of a hipped roof are a common sight on Federal Style homes. Multiple chimneys allowed for the construction of central halls and more efficient heating of larger homes. The chimneys often were integrated into the walls themselves. End chimneys were more common in the south, while central/interior chimneys appeared in the chillier climes of the north. Federal Style chimneys tended to be narrower than those of the Georgian era.
